TOPS Student Gets Bluesy at the Poetry Series

A stage is a powerful thing. It commands our attention. It points us in the right direction. We at Seattle Arts & Lectures don’t take it lightly.

For the last couple of years, we have been showcasing the writing of students in our WITS program at the start of each Poetry Series event. Here’s Kellen Lambert-Vail talking to W.S. Merwin backstage before the evening’s performance:

And here’s Jose Valencia reading his Donald Hall-inspired poem (with a little help from a soapbox):

And here’s Michaela Flum conferring with Jane Hirshfield backstage before the authors head out onto the stage:

This week’s reading by Kim Addonizio and Gary Lilley will also feature a young poet from TOPS: Zoe Gluck. She will be reading a poem called “Advertisement Blues.” Check back next week to see a photo of Zoe take her very own stage.
